Be the Happening

I’m not sure if this is a new modern thing or has always been the case, but most people do not take initiative. On anything really. Especially things that are difficult.

Be the one to make that effort. It’s difficult at first, but gets easier. Without you things will just slowly fall into decline. Or never improve. Always try to leave things a little better than you found them.

Interestingly others will do even less when you step up. Once someone has taken any responsibility the rest will default to “they are handling it”. Apparantly this happens with folks calling emergency services. The bigger the crowd the less likely a single individual will do something. Some kind of “fit in” reaction we seem to have for the tribe.

This also doesn’t always have to be chores. It doubles for social occasions. Waiting for someone to organise a party is lame. Host the party! It’s a public service to others. And it guarantees you will be invited :P

Get the building door fixed.

Invite people over for dinner.

Write to the city council about something that bothers you.

Be the one that makes things happen.
